Learning Design

Sadly, classrooms and conference rooms have not kept up with learning science. If you are unsure what we mean, ask yourself these three questions:

  1. When was the last time at work you had to answer via multiple choice to complete a daily work task?
  2. When was the last time you had to write an essay, do compare and contrast of historical figures, or use sugar cubes to build a Spanish mission?
  3. Did anyone in your major (outside computer science) ask you to reset a router, review a log file, or develop a low-code application?

The reality is everything is computerized, our tools are not sugar cubes nor cardboard but virtual, and learning by multiple choice does not prepare us for the transfer of skills using real world situations and state of the art tools.

So at HCS, we use simulations and scenarios. We don’t train with you sitting down, unless you make us. And we don’t build learning systems that don’t learn. We build learning systems that continually learn and adapt as your teams learn and adapt.

We look at not just knowledge building, we look at how do we empower you to create exceptional skills and abilities that adapt to a turbulent world. And we focus on dysfunction, the set of behaviors that if identified, channeled, and leveraged can lock onto passion and persistence that makes any individual or team pursue excellence.

That makes us the oddball.

The consulting firm that embraces complexity, but believes that if the right systems are in place, we can help you excel beyond the competitive landscape of your industry. And because we embrace dysfunction, we embrace all the foibles, failures, and goofiness that human random, impulsive sub-optimal behaviors bring. Oh and evolution made sure we all depend on to survive.

So how do you plug into dysfunction? You develop training and learning that accelerates failure while lowering the consequences of defeat, so you can embrace learning from mistakes.

This is not your typical learning design paradigm, so we inject humor, skill building, and psychological safety into everything we do. It is what sets us apart.

If you want to learn from dysfunctional behaviors and use it for competitive excellence let’s start a conversation…
